Conceived as a direct way to bring the Arab and Islamic world closer to students, the Teaching of Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL) was created as an area of work at Casa Árabe ever since it opened its Madrid headquarters in 2008.
Bearing in mind the linguistic reality of the Arab world and this language’s presence in our country, the Language Center’s educational offerings have included classes in Modern Standard Arabic and Moroccan Arabic (Darija) from the very beginning. In 2012, it began to offer its first classes on Egyptian Arabic and Levantine (spoken in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan), as well as on-demand classes and in-company courses for businesses and private students.
The courses, intended for adults and youths as of 13 years of age, as well as for children between 3 a 12 years old, are given on a quarterly basis throughout the academic year (October-June), with intensive courses offered in July.
At the same time as its work in teaching, the Language Center works to promote the standardization of TAFL through teacher training, the development of teaching materials and the holding of congresses at the international level, the most notable of which have been Arabele (2009 and 2012) and the Fifth International Moroccan Arabic Congress.
