"City" Exhibition by Faraj Daham
From November 19, 2013 until February 02, 2014
Casa Árabe, with the cooperation of the prestigious cultural institution Katara Cultural Village Foundation, is presenting the exhibition City, a unique opportunity to become familiar with the contemporary artistic creations of Qatar through the eyes of one of its most noteworthy artists: Faraj Daham.
Shown in this exhibition curated by Sa’id Costa is a series of more than twenty works which provide a portrait of Doha, the artist’s city of birth. Faraj Daham examines the city as if it were a postcard, like a living cultural construct which we recognize not only because of its population density, but also because of the social and historical factors which it encompasses.
This exhibition forms part of the series of activities which Casa Árabe is carrying out with great intensity in the field of cultural cooperation with institutions from the Arab world. These institutions, including the Katara Cultural Village Foundation itself, highlight the enormous dynamic energy being experienced in the region. In fact, the exhibition being shown now in Madrid is the continuation of joint work performed with this entity which began with the presentation of a photographic exhibition about Cordoba in Doha last June.
The exhibition may be seen from November 26 through February 2 at the Casa Árabe exhibition hall (at Calle Alcalá, 62), During Christmas opening hours will be the usual, Monday through Saturday from 11:00 to 15:00 and 16:00 to 19:30 and Sunday from 11:00 to 15:00, except on December 24 and January 5, that will open only in the morning from 11:00 to 15:00, and on 25 December, 1 and 6 January that the exhibition closed. Free entrance.
