MADRID
Círculo de Bellas Artes (Address: Calle Alcalá, 42). 8:00 p.m. Free entry until the event’s capacity is reached.

Casa Árabe will be taking part in the Festival of Ideas by organizing this concert by musicians Driss El Maloumi and Andreas Prittwitz. The performance will be taking place at the Círculo de Bellas Artes on Saturday, September 21. Come and watch!

Driss is one of the most important Arabic oud performers around. Known as “the poet of the Oud,” he has experimented in both the field of traditional Moroccan music and the interpretation of ancient Sephardic music through his experiences as a musician on many tours with Jordi Savall.

Andreas Prittwitz, on the saxophone-clarinet-sharp flute, has been researching and perfecting what is known as “fusion music” for many years, bringing together different styles from various periods in Western culture, including ancient music and jazz, on the stages of our country and across the continent, through his project “Looking Back.”

Tawassol means “nearness” or “proximity” in Arabic. The musicians’ proposal will weave together a dialogue between Arab, Baroque and Sephardic musical heritages, creating textures and improvisations which lead us to discover unexpected colors and sounds. The quartet is made complete by the participation of Said El Maloumi, on percussion, and Ramiro Morales, on archlute and baroque guitar.

Driss El Maloumi (Morocco, 1970). After earning his degree in Arabic Literature, he received a solid education in classical Arab and Western music. Since 2010, he has been the director of the Agadir Music Conservatory Agadir. Known internationally as “The Oud Poet,” he has been bestowed with several awards for his career. These include the “Chevalier dans l’ordre des arts et des lettres” awarded by the Ministry of Culture in France (2016), and the “Ziryab des virtuoses” Award given by the Morocco National Music Committee, an institution belonging to UNESCO-Paris (2010). El Maloumi works with internationally renowned performers and composes music for films and documentaries.

Andreas Prittwitz (Munich, 1960) has collaborated as a recorder soloist in a wide range of European orchestras. He has studied clarinet and saxophone through self-teaching, entering the world of improvisation (jazz, folk, world music). Specializing as an artistic producer and backing musician, he has worked with the most important figures in the Spanish music scene. In 2009, he was nominated as Best Classical Music Performer for the album “Looking Back over the Renaissance” with Plácido Domingo, José Carreras and Eduardo Paniagua. In 2018, he received the “Serondaya de las Artes Award” for cultural innovation.
