As of February 11, Casa Árabe is showing this exhibition dedicated to the Moroccan city of Chaouen at its Andalusian headquarters, as part of the seventeenth Cordoba Photography Biennial.

“This pearl with countless shades of blue is a must for many photographers who, like Manuel Lama, could not resist the temptation and challenge of capturing their own vision of the city of Chaouen. The exhibition shows us the result of his work after several trips to our neighboring country. His photographs leave the necessary space to perceive, explore and interpret the images in accordance with each viewer’s own mood.”
Michael Zapke, the exhibition curator

Manuel Lama has had a lengthy career as a professional photographer, having experienced different concepts, trends and styles. The camera is an extension of his way of seeing and understanding life, of looking inside and outside of himself, perceiving emotions and feelings about himself and others; a way of “seeing with the eyes, looking with the mind and perceiving with the heart.”  His work does not interpret reality. Instead he shows it to viewers like it is, using all of the resources offered by the language of photography, capturing the beauty of a place, its stillness, its atmosphere, the balance of color, shapes and volumes, the silence, with sheer simplicity...

Lama has won more than one hundred national and international awards, including the prestigious Cordoba Mosque Award, with his work “Espacios eternos” (“Eternal Spaces,” Sala Orive, 2012). The Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP), recognized by UNESCO, recently awarded him the gold medal and  title of “Artist.” He has also been given acknowledgment by the Spanish Photography Confederation (CEF), the highest photographic institution in our country. He has been invited to put on exhibitions at different photography biennials, including Foto Noviembre (Tenerife), the Olot Biennial and the Cordoba Photography Biennial. His work has been published in several specialized magazines, including a portfolio in Arte Fotográfico about the exhibition “La Ciudad del Mundo,” and he has had two photography books published: “La Cuba que encontré” and “ArteSpacio.” His work can be found in the Cordoba Photo Library and various  public and private collections.
