From October 21 to 23, Casa Árabe will host this edition of the annual conference of the Forum for Research on the Arab and Muslim World at its headquarters. This collaboration takes place as part of Casa Árabe’s 20th anniversary, 2006–2026

The conference will begin on Wednesday, October 21, at 9:30 a.m. and will take place in three parallel venues: a room in the Vimcorsa Building and two additional spaces at the Casa Árabe headquarters, which will simultaneously host all sessions.

Thus, the FIMAM conference will begin at the Vimcorsa building with various book presentations, followed by a session dedicated to “The European Union, the Mediterranean, and Border Governance.” Meanwhile, at Casa Árabe, research presentations will focus on social changes and movements, as well as sociopolitical transformations and historical reparations, with sessions titled “Youth and Post-Migrant Generations” and “Protest, Mobilization, and Resistance,” on the one hand, and those dedicated to “Law, Institutions, and Transformations” and “Transitional Justice, Memory, and Reparation,” on the other.

The opening ceremony will take place this afternoon, beginning at 4:15 p.m. with opening remarks by Miguel Moro Aguilar, Director General of Casa Árabe; Rafael Camarero, of the FIMAM Board; Senén Florensa, Executive President of IEMed; Bárbara Boloix, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Euro-Arab Foundation; Andrés Perelló, Director General of Casa Mediterráneo; and Haizam Amirah Fernández, Executive Director of CEARC. This will be followed by the presentation of the FIMAM book *Contemporary Challenges in Foreign Policy in North African and Middle Eastern Countries*, led by Álvaro de Argüelles of the FIMAM Board, as well as the IEMed Yearbook, featuring Senén Florensa and Miguel Hernando de Larramendi, a member of the Yearbook’s Advisory Board. The day’s session will conclude with the roundtable discussion “Contemporary Challenges for the Arab and Muslim World in a Changing Global Order,” featuring Sonia Boulos of Nebrija University and Rafael Grasa of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, moderated by Luana Menezes and Melania Brito Clavijo, members of the FIMAM board.

The following day, Thursday the 22nd, the Vimcorsa Hall will host morning sessions dedicated to “Religion and Political Islam: Uses, Instrumentalization, and Security Discourses” and “Foreign Policy, Alliances, and Power Strategies in the SWANA Region.” In the afternoon, the presentations will focus on relations between “Spain and the Arab World: Foreign Policy, Decolonization, and Cooperation,” with a specific panel on the issue of “Western Sahara: Colonialism, Decolonization, and Resistance.”

Meanwhile, at Casa Árabe, the program will address issues of “Identity, Memory, and National Representations,” the conflict in “Palestine: Its Sovereignty, Destruction, and Resistance,” “Bodies, Sexuality, and Reproduction,” and “Narratives and the Media.” The afternoon sessions will focus on “Political Economy and Development,” “Land, Resources, and Power: Energy Transitions and Agrarian Transformation,” “Research, Representations, and Knowledge Production,” and “Migration and Spaces of Discourse.” That same afternoon, there will also be time for cultural visits (to be determined).

Finally, on Friday the 23rd, there will be only morning sessions, as the afternoon will be devoted to the FIMAM General Assembly. These sessions will feature presentations on “Iran, Israel, and the Reconfiguration of the World Order,” as well as on “Diasporas, Migrant Communities, Identity, and Belonging” (Vimcorsa Room), while at Casa Árabe, the sessions will focus on “Islamophobia, Secularism, and the Management of Religious Diversity,” “Gender, Mobility, and Violence,” “Gastronomy, Heritage, and Representation Policies,” and finally on “Authoritarianism, Elites, and the Accumulation of Power.”

To conclude the three days of sessions, the FIMAM General Assembly will be held, during which decisions regarding the Forum, the Board, and the next meeting will be made, in addition to gathering opinions and suggestions for changes and/or improvements; this assembly is open to all participants in the various sessions.
