Casa Árabe is hosting Africa Week, organized by the Spanish Association of Africanists.

Over 50 years have gone by now since the countries in Africa began to gain their independence with euphoria and hope, enough time to take a look back and take stock of the situation. Throughout this period, various assessments have been made, both flattering and discouraging, including “Afro-optimistic” and “Afro-pessimistic” views (an “Africa of uncertainties,” “Africa blocked,” the “renaissance or awakening of Africa,” “emerging Africa,” etc.), all of which must be reconsidered.

Through these round table discussions, the Spanish Association of Africanists invites us to reflect on the challenges faced by African countries, and their successes and failures, in terms of both problems involving society and culture and those related with economic and social development.  In summary, the idea is to analyze the challenges faced by the African nations in a globalized world, from a geopolitical, geo-economic and sociocultural perspective. On this occasion, the round table discussions, which the Spanish Association of Africanists (AEA) invites the audience to participate in actively, have been organized around the topics of literature, women, politics and economics.
