Alberto Elena Has Passed Away
From April 29, 2014 until May 10, 2014
Today we received the sad news of the death of our dear friend and colleague Alberto Elena, who worked together with us so very much ever since Casa Árabe was first created, seven years ago now.
A Professor of Audiovisual Communication at the Universidad Carlos III of Madrid, Alberto Elena is one of the great references in film studies, and to him we owe, amongst so many other things, the knowledge which he has passed on to us about films from such unknown places, outside of the commercial circuits, which he defined so well as “peripheral.”
Since its beginnings, Casa Árabe has put on many series of film events devoted exclusively to Arab cinema, the repercussion and excellent reviews of which are directly related to the in-depth knowledge and commitment which Alberto Elena has contributed throughout all these years. We will all be left with his legacy in an endless number of scholarly texts and original contributions in books, articles, reviews, etc., which will continue to nurture us for a long time to come. And those who had the privilege of knowing him and working with him will always cherish our memory of an extraordinary human being.
