Storyteller Héctor Urién is offering us this evening of tales as part of the tenth edition of the Autonomous Region of Madrid’s Theater Night.

The Thousand and One Nights are like a long-lasting kiss which endures to keep from dying. And to prevent her demise, every night Scheherazade would tell a tale that she would leave dangling at the very end, until the following night. Professional storyteller Héctor Urién is bringing this same form of narrative to Casa Árabe, where his stories will take the form of his voice, presence and gestures. And so, one night after the other, he will use his magic, eroticism, laughter and mystery. A different tale told each night, and this night will be the first...

In doing so, Casa Árabe will be joining Theater Night 2017, with this original and exciting project which, for its tenth edition, is also including the subject of women and their very important role in the world of the arts. Through Héctor Urién’s theatrical storytelling, the role of Scheherazade as a speaker is brought back to light, and the roles played by the many women who appear in The Thousand and One Nights are highlighted.

Performance information sheet

Héctor Urién (Madrid, 1977), a professional oral storyteller, has staged this innovative, original show based on the structure used to build Scheherazade’s tale. As a professional storyteller, he performs his art and stage work at theaters in Spain and Latin America. Driven by his curiosity and a deeply ingrained scientific streak, Urién has developed his own ongoing storytelling workshop in Madrid, where the students and their teacher come together to discover the inner workings of stories and the mystery of the oral narrative. A narrator of short, direct tales, he has taken part in several domestic and foreign festivals, as well as co-directing the annual festival “Ávila de cuento” (“Storybook Avila”). In 2015, he had an essay published by the “Palabras del candil” publishing firm: La narración fractal. arte y ciencia de la oralidad (Fractal storytelling: the art and science of oral tradition), in which he presents an innovative, surprising perspective on storytelling, backed by chaos theory and fractal geometry.
