Arab World sound soul
From May 19, 2011 until June 21, 2011
What makes Umm Kulthum so special that millions of people fall in love with her? Why is ChebKhaled raï’s king and not prince? How do Lebanese youths dance in discos? Which is more Arab: belly dancing or Eastern rap?
In the European Music Day framework and organized by Madrid City Council on June 21st, Casa Árabe proposes a trip to the Arab world sound soul guided by Brigitte Vasallo, journalist and intercultural mediator.
Vasallo has worked for different media, such as Al-Jazeera, Lonely Planet Magazine, Batonga! and Sons de la Mediterrania, tackling subjects related to music, Arab and Islamic world cultures. She has directed and conducted the radio program “Perder el Norte” [Losing someone’s bearings].
Casa Árabe will host the event in its Auditorium in Madrid (c/ Alcalá, 62) at 19.30. Free entrance.
