Arabele Congress 2012

Madrid hosts "Arabele 2012: Second International Congress on Teaching of Arabic as a Foreign Language", from September 27th to 29th.
Organized by Casa Árabe, the University of Murcia and the Toledo School of Translators (UCLM), Arabele 2012 is aimed to provide a space and a time to analyse, to reflect and to debate scientifically over the state of the research and the daily routines of teaching Arabic as a foreign language: tackling from its achievements and challenges to the most important needs and methodological innovations, both inside and outside Spain.
The thematic axis which will guide the achievement of these objectives are the following ones:
- Adaptation of Arabic teaching to the CEFR [Common European Framework of Reference for Languages]
- Tackling diglossia: Arabic language registers and dialectal Arabic
- Corpus linguistics applied to Arabic teaching
- Arabic for translators and interpreters
- Preparing materials
As guest lectures, the Congress includes the participation of professors Mahmoud Al-Batal (University of Texas), Manuel Feria (University of Granada), Mustafa Mughazi (Western Michigan University) and Dilworth Parkinson (Brigham Young University). Apart from them and directing the workshops which will take place, the professors Ignacio Ferrando (University of Cadiz), Adil Moustaoui (Autonomous University of Madrid) y Waleed Saleh (Autonomous University of Madrid).
The Congress is aimed at Arabic teachers (University level, Secondary schools, related to Official Schools of Languages, or private academies), researchers focused on Arabic as a foreign language didactics, publishing houses and learning material authors and also to those people in charge of academic programs where teaching Arabic as a second language is part of, no matter which variant they include.
