Arabic Language: Teaching and learning

The foundation “Pluralismo y Convivencia” and Casa Árabe have organized this day of events on the occasion of “Arabic Language Day”

The objective of this day of events is to share experiences and discuss practices, as well as analyzing the difficulties and challenges in teaching Arabic in Spain, to support the training of educators and create a space for reflection about the teaching of this language.

It will be organized as a round table discussion and workshop for sharing formal and informal experiences in teaching the Arabic language, with a special emphasis on teaching Arabic to children and children’s language programs.

Taking part in the events will be teachers from Casa Árabe’s Arabic Language Center and Muslim communities which also have experience in this field.

7:00 p.m. - Opening event

7:15 p.m. - “Basma”: one possible methodology
Ana Planet, a professor with the Department of Arab and Islamic Studies at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM).

7:45 p.m. - Didactics and experiences in teaching the Arabic language
Djalila Chaib, a teacher at Casa Árabe’s Arabic Language Center
Noha El-Ashkar, a teacher at Casa Árabe’s Arabic Language Center
Fouad Benali, a teacher with the Muslim Community of Fuenlabrada
Fatima Roustom Ajlani, a teacher at Madrid’s Central Mosque
Ahmed Kaddour, of the Islamic Cultural Center of Alcalá de Henares

8:30 p.m.: Workshop on educational experiences: sharing and debate

When this day of events comes to an end, all those attending will be given a copy of the “Basma” Arabic language teaching method, which is the result of a project completed by Casa Árabe and the “Pluralismo and Convivencia” Foundation, published by the Akal publishing firm.
