On Wednesday, October 9 in Cordoba, we are hosting a new session of our new series dedicated to Mediterranean Mosques, with this session on the Caliphate Ribat of Guardamar del Segura (Alicante), to be presented by Rafael Azuar.

Excavations along the coastal dunes of Guardamar del Segura (Alicante) (1984-1992) brought to light the remains of a “ribat,” unknown from the Arab sources. Thus, for the first time archeological study provided material data with stratigraphic and epigraphic dating of the unknown ribaṭ/s from the ninth-tenth centuries in Al-Andalus, of an architectural and monumental complexity different from the well-known “ribats” in Tunisia and North Africa.
