During the months of June and July, these workshops will be held to assist with, reflect upon and raise awareness about loneliness and grief among unaccompanied migrant children and formerly assisted youths living in Madrid.

The workshops and meetings have been organized as part of the Madrid Health Department’s “Crossings of Solitude, Mourning and Hope” (“Travesías”) project held with the cooperation of Casa Árabe, the Association of Arab Artists in Spain (3AE) and the Art for Life Association (ACAV).

“Travesías” is a social, creative and artistic project that uses art and art therapy to create spaces, potential and resources for assistance, training, reflection and awareness surrounding the problem of feeling unwanted loneliness and complex grief among unaccompanied migrant girls, boys and youths, as well as formerly assisted immigrant youths in Madrid.

These activities are intended for this youth population, as well as professionals and the general public, in order to produce shared exchange experiences with mutual and collaborative learning. Through art and art therapy, at these workshops we will create opportunities for inclusiveness, dialogue and hope together.

The workshops on Emotional Baggage Cases, small portable museums of memories, emotions and dreams, will be put together using different art methodologies which are adapted to each group. They will be held at the Casa Árabe headquarters in Madrid. The events revolve around the core idea of the potential created by art and art therapy, as feasible ways of emotional exploration and dealing with situations of unwanted loneliness, in the prevention, assistance and processing of (complicated) grief.
