Professors Isaías Barreñada and Ignacio Álvarez-Ossorio are presenting
this work, published by Edicions Bellaterra, in Madrid on November 28.
Isaías Barreñada, the book’s coordinator and a professor of International Relations at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and Ignacio Álvarez-Ossorio, a professor of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Alicante, will be introduced by Karim Hauser, Casa Árabe’s International Politics Coordinator.
The book performs a critical review of the political relations between Spain and the Palestinians, with a special emphasis on cooperation policies from the focus of policy coherence. It concludes that, though Spanish governments have held a stance of rhetorical support for the rights of Palestinians, they have been very hesitant when it comes time to making firm, coherent political commitments and have found refuge in providing aid to make up for that deficiency, feeding into the perverse effects of aid in a context of occupation.
