Call for papers: Congress on “The Arab Springs Ten Years Later”
From October 15, 2020 until November 30, 2020
The call for papers to be presented at this congress, held from February 10 to 12, 2021 at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Casa Árabe, will remain open until November 30.
The main goal of this congress is to reflect upon the transformations that have taken place in North Africa and the Middle East over the last decade and to perform a critical examination of the so-called Arab Spring, through nine work groups which will discuss different topics from social, political and economic perspectives.
Organized by the R+D project “Resilience of Authoritarianism, Clash Between Islamisms and Intensification of Sectarianism in the Middle East and Maghreb” (CSO2017-86091-P), the Arab and Islamic Studies Section of the Department of Linguistics, Arab and Hebrew Studies and East Asia of the UCM, the Complutense Institute of International Studies and Casa Árabe, the congress is being held with the cooperation of five other research projects and consultation with a scientific committee of 27 professors and researchers from universities and centers in Spain, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Qatar, in addition to the congress’ three scientific coordinators: Ignacio Álvarez-Ossorio Alvariño, Isaías Barreñada Bajo and Laura Mijares Molina, professors at the UCM.
COMMUNICATION PROPOSALS AND DEADLINES
Potential participants must submit their communication proposals (in Spanish, French or English) to the following email address: congresoprimaverasarabesUCM@gmail.com, indicating which work group they would like to participate in, by November 30, 2020. These proposals, submitted in PDF format, should not exceed 300 words and must contain a title, an abstract and three key words.
Those presentations which are accepted must have their final communications submitted by January 15, 2021, with a minimum length of 4,000 words, to be provided to the respective coordinators of the work groups.
