Casa Árabe announces the second edition of the “Amistad” award

From September 18, 2024 until October 30, 2024

For the second year in a row, our institution is giving this award, which is meant to recognize the work of individuals and entities that have promoted greater awareness of the Arabic language. The competition will remain open until October 30. Please see the rules and regulations below.

Casa Árabe’s “Amistad” (“Friendship”) Award was created with the purpose of acknowledging the work of individuals and entities, both public or private, and domestic or foreign, that have contributed in some outstanding way to spreading the Arabic language, innovating in it, disseminating it or extending it to other activities that enhance its uniqueness, its heritage as part of the Spanish language and its vitality today.

By creating the “Amistad” Award, Casa Árabe is attempting to increase awareness about the Arabic language and allow it to spread further, highlighting and rewarding those who contribute to its richness and expansion through their hard work and dedication. Arabic is a language with an increasing presence in the fields of science, culture and economics. Spain is a fine example of this, and Arabic has had a major linguistic influence on Spanish, with a growing community of Arabic speakers.

The deadline for submitting candidacies is October 30, and the jury will be made up of Casa Árabe’s General Director, who will act as the jury’s president, and five experts from the fields of culture, language, education, economics, international relations and communication.

In addition to the prestigious award, the winner will also receive a sculpture created by the distinguished artist Rachid Koraïchi, to be presented at a special ceremony organized by Casa Árabe. Furthermore, funding will be provided so that the invited award-winner can attend the ceremony, which may be held at either of Casa Árabe’s two headquarters.

At the 2023 edition, the prize went to Arabist and editor Carmen Ruiz Bravo-Villasante. The jury took into account her lifelong dedication to the study, research and dissemination of the Arabic language, and in particular her work on the methodology of teaching this language.
