Casa Árabe announces the third edition of the “Friendship Award”

From November 24, 2025 until January 23, 2026

The purpose of the award is to give acknowledgment to the work by individuals and institutions that have made an outstanding contribution to strengthening ties of co-existence, harmony and understanding between the Arab and Spanish societies. The time period for submitting nominations will last from December 1, 2025 to January 23, 2026.

The Casa Árabe “Friendship Award” was created to acknowledge the work done by individuals and institutions—both public or private, whether domestic or foreign—that have made outstanding contributions to the strengthening of ties of co-existence, harmony and understanding between the Arab and Spanish societies.

Through this award, Casa Árabe wishes to pay tribute to those who promote intercultural dialogue, mutual knowledge and respect, and cooperation in the social, academic, cultural, economic, scientific and technological realms, thereby contributing to a deeper relationship based on knowledge, empathy and shared friendship.

The time period for submitting nominations will last from December 1, 2025 to January 23, 2026. The jury’s decision will be made public during the week of February 16 to 20. The award will be presented at a ceremony at Casa Árabe, the date of which will be announced in due course.

The award consists of a sculpture created by prestigious artist Rachid Koraïchi and will be given during a special ceremony organized by Casa Árabe. Furthermore, funding will be provided so that the invited award-winner can attend the ceremony, which may be held at either of Casa Árabe’s two headquarters.

Prior editions of the award were given to Fernando Valdés, a professor emeritus at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Waleed Saleh Alkhalifa (2024) and Arabist and editor Carmen Ruiz Bravo-Villasante (2023). The jury also decided to grant an honorary mention of the Award posthumously to Federico Arbós Ayuso, a translator and professor at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
