Cinema on Fridays in Cordoba

From October 31, 2012 until December 21, 2012

From December 7th to 21st Casa Árabe headquarters in Cordoba host the screening of three films by famous Arab directors and which have been released within the latest years. The program "Cinema on Fridays" includes titles such as Couscous -La graine et le mulet in original version – its director, Abdellatif Kechiche, was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Venice International Film Festival and four Cesar prizes. The second of the long length films to be screened is the German comedy Almanya, by the director Yasemin Samdereli. The last film of this year is to be Le Grand Voyage written and directed by Ismael Ferroukhi, whose debut on cinema screens was this one and with which he won the best Opera Prima (debut film) at the Venice International Film Festival.

Screening sessions are scheduled on Fridays afternoon, at 20.00, at Casa Árabe’s Auditorium (c/ Samuel de los Santos Gener, 9 –corner to c/ Velázquez Bosco with Plaza de la Agrupación de las Cofradías). Free entrance limited by space availability.

The story of Mister Beij, a shipyard employee aged 60, who does not stand his job. He is a divorced head of household who tries no matter what to keep gathered his beloved family. In this delicate stage of his life, everything seems to contribute to make him feel useless. Nevertheless, he just thinks how to overcome and he decides to set up his own business.
 



Almanya

After working for 45 years in Germany as a Turkish Gastarbeiter, or guest worker, Hüseyin Yilmaz, now in his 70s, announces to his family that he has bought a house in Turkey and wants everyone to go back with him to renovate it. They undertake a journey back in time to a wondrous place where a small Turkish family discovered a land populated by blond giants who ate pigs, where big rats on leashes were taken on walks, where water was called Coca-Cola, where people worshiped a little wooden figure on a cross, and where everyone spoke “gibberish” – a land called ALMANYA!

Le Grand Voyage

Reda, a young French-Moroccan guy and his old father drive from the south of France to Mecca in order for the father to do his pilgrimage. At first distant, they gradually learn to know each other along the 4.800 kilometre trip going through the Balkans, Turkey and several Arab countries.
