Cordoba Guitar Festival in Madrid

Casa Árabe is presenting the year 2013 edition of the Cordoba Guitar Festival at its Madrid headquarters. The event will be taking place on Tuesday, June 25 at 12:00 p.m. and will include a musical interlude in a performance by Amir John Haddad and José Luis Montón.

 Eduardo López Busquets, General Director of Casa Árabe, Juan Miguel Moreno Calderón, Cultural Delegate and President of the Municipal Institute of Stage Arts, and Juan Carlos Limia, manager of the Municipal Institute of Stage Arts, will be explaining the details of this festival, in which notable guitarists from the contemporary music scene will be taking part.

The 33rd edition of the Cordoba Guitar Festival will be held from July 1-13, and the main stars will be musicians Michael Schenker and Robert Cray. The show includes sections dedicated to jazz, blues, fado, classical music and flamenco, as well as an interesting educational program. Amir John Haddad and José Luis Montón will play the starring roles in the presentation of the festival at Casa Árabe, in a performance which combines the Arab oud and Flamenco guitar.
 

Amir John Haddad


Amir-John Haddad was born in Freiburg, Germany in 1975, to a family with a Palestinian and Colombian background. His family environment led him to play by ear through improvisation, and in 1997 he decided to move to Andalusia in order to continue studying guitar in Jerez de la Frontera. During his time in Andalusia, he was a disciple of such masters as Pepe Justicia and Enrique de Melchor. In 1998, he took up residence in Madrid to explore new musical frontiers. In Madrid, he has performed at well-known flamenco tablaos such as Las Carboneras, El Corral de la Pacheca and Casa Patas. For more than ten years, he formed part of the legendary Spanish music group Radio Tarifa, playing the oud, flamenco and electric guitar, bouzouki and banjo. In 1999, he was awarded first prize for original music composition in the Spanish Dance and Flamenco Choreography Competition at the Albéniz Theater in Madrid. John Haddad just published his second solo album title 9 Guitarras, produced by Mundo Flamenco and himself. 

José Luis Montón


José Luis Montón was born in 1962 in Barcelona. He began his musical studies at a very early age, studying flamenco and all types of music. He has worked with important artists of different styles, such as Antonio Canales, Kitflus, Mayte Martín, Carmen Cortes, El Indio Gitano, Juana Maya, Joaquín Grilo, Mariano Gruceta, Belén Maya, Belén Fernández, Antonio el Pipa, Israel Galván, Horst Sohm and Toto Blanke, as well as others. He earned first prize in the international competitions of Barcelona and Nimes (France). In 1996, he recorded his first work in Germany, Flamenco entre amigos, and one year later he recorded Aroma. In his latest solo work, Sin querer, artists of the stature of Tomasito de Jerez, Ara Malikian, Renato Aresi and Bjorn Meyer took part. In 2002, he recorded the album Manantial with Ara Malikian. In 2003 and 2004, he received the award for Best Original Music for Dance given by Madrid’s Albeniz Theater. He recorded his second album, De la felicidad, with Ara Malikian. Along with Egyptian musician Hossam Ramzy, he published Flamenco Arabe II. In 2007, he created La Banda del Aire and José Luis Montón Quartet. In 2009, he completed the recording of his album Flamenco Kids.
