A public seminar and workshop for professionals organized by the Union of Family Associations (UNAF) on motherhood and sexuality in Morocco.

Casa Árabe is hosting this Third Day on Cultures, Gender and Sexualities, organized by the Union of Family Associations (UNAF) as part of its Program for the Promotion of Sexual Health and Prevention among the Immigrant Population. With the title “Invisible Motherhood: Single mothers in Morocco,” the day will be devoted to analyzing and reflecting upon the reality of discrimination and violation of sexual and reproductive rights suffered by single mothers in Morocco and the effects this has on them and their children. The event will also examine in what way this situation affects women in migration processes, offering cultural essentials which make it possible for professionals to provide better assistance and more protection for these rights.

The day, which has been given the support of the Directorate General of Migrations at the Spanish Ministry of Employment and Social Security, and the European Union Asylum, Immigration and Integration Fund, will be officially opened by Pedro Villena, the General Director of Casa Árabe, Ildefonso de la Campa Montenegro, Director General of Migration at Spain’s Ministry of Employment and Social Security, and Ascensión Iglesias, President of the UNAF.

The day will include a public event in the morning, which will discuss the situation through the screening of the documentary “Invisible Mothers” and a round table discussion on the status of Moroccan women’s sexual and reproductive rights, given by the director of the documentary himself, Lorenzo Benítez, and two experts on the topic: Zoubida Boughaba (an activist, intercultural mediator and intervention project coordinator at the Red Cross of Granada/mediator and producer of the documentary “Invisible Mothers”) and Lidia Luque (a sexologist who specializes in the study of sexuality among the migrant population from Morocco).

In the afternoon, there will be a workshop on the construction of sexuality in Morocco, intended for professionals from different fields (education, social affairs, health care...), to be given by Luisa Antolín and Mª Angeles Rodríguez, technicians from the Program to Promote Sexual Health and Prevention among the Immigrant Population by the UNAF, and Zoubida Boughaba, an intercultural mediator and coordinator of intervention projects at the Red Cross of Granada. Space is limited for this workshop and will be assigned in order of registration.
