Casa Árabe, in collaboration with the Cineclub Universitario of the University of Jaen, shows in Jaen and Linares three current Arab films.
Couscous, by Abdellatif Kechiche (France, 2007, 151 min.).
The story of Mister Beij, a shipyard employee aged 60, who does not stand his job. He is a divorced head of household who tries no matter what to keep gathered his beloved familiy. In this delicate stage of his life, everything seems to contribute to make him feel useless. Nevertheless, he just thinks how to overcome and he decides to set up his own business.
The Yacoubian Building, by Marwan Hamed (Egypt, 2006, 161 min.).
Through a peculiar main character, the Yacoubian Building, the thread of this story, the film shows characters that search for love, security, sex and power, among other things. Built in 1930, the Yacoubian Building is located in the Suleiman Pasha Street, in the heart of the commercial area of Cairo. A former luxurious building for rich residents of the area which has undergone a decline through recent years.
Bab Aziz, by Nacer Khemir (Tunisia, 2005, 98 min.).
A girl called Ishtar and her grandfather Bab Aziz, a blind sufi, wander the desert in search of a great reunion of dervishes that takes place just once every thirty years. To find where the meeting will take place, its a must to have faith and to listen with the heart the infinite silence of the desert.
