On Monday, October 28, the third conference in the series Aula Árabe Universitaria 6 will be held in Madrid, given by writer and anti-racism activist Safia El Aaddam. Come watch it in person or see the even live on our YouTube channel

Based on her book Daughter of Immigrants, Safia El Aaddam’s conference will deal with the complexities of identity within a context of migration and migratory heritage. She will give us a closer look at the story lived by its main protagonists as a way to reflect upon the sense of belonging, the search for a home and the role that languages play in the construction of personal and collective identity, in this case an indigenous language and how there is a problem also in terms of the place of origin. Her talk will connect the narrative in the novel with topics such as uprooting, culture shock, identity crises and how immigrants’ sons and daughters inherit migratory status, racism and everything which this entails.

Organized with the cooperation of the Bachelor’s degree program in Applied Modern Languages at the Universidad Nebrija, and in representation thereof, with the participation of Cristina Casado, the director of this bachelor’s degree program, who will be presenting and introducing the session, to be moderated by Olivia Orozco, Casa Árabe’s Training and Economics Coordinator.
