are presenting this book in Madrid, at an event that will include
participation by the book’s author, Professor Luz Gómez.
Gómez, the book’s author and an associate professor of Arab and Islamic Studies at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, will be accompanied by Bernabé López García, an honorary Chair of Arab and Islamic Studies at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid; Silvia Intxaurrondo, a journalist and Arabist, and Alejandro Sierra, the director of Editorial Trotta. Presented by: Karim Hauser, Casa Árabe’s Coordinator of International Relations.
The Dictionary of Islam and Islamism provides a summary of the doctrinal, historical, social, political and cultural aspects of Islam, with a highlight on its ideological transformation as a result of Islamism. With over five hundred entries, it covers topics ranging from Arab Islam to other Islamic traditions, like those in Iran, Africa and India. By taking into consideration both the classical meanings of concepts, thanks to knowledge about Qur’anic sources and other original texts, and voices from the contemporary world, it provides an essential tool with information and reflections on Islam, as well as analysis of Islamist and Jihadist agendas, and mainstream Islam integrated into the system.
