You may now register to take part in these workshops, which Casa Árabe has
organized for Saturday, March 17, on the occasion of the concert by
international Arab electronic music star Omar Souleyman.
In recent years, Arab electronic music has undergone major development, with the appearance of DJs, music groups and singers of special interest because they have stretched the limits separating musical genres to create new forms of cultural expression. The interpretation and use which these DJs make of traditional instruments when creating electronic music often refers back to a very rich, complex musical tradition. The political situation and social and economic changes, in addition to other universal topics like love and friendship, lie at the origin of the lyrics used to express these new ideas in music.
At this workshop, organized with the cooperation of the Escuela de Oficios Electrosonoros (School of Electronic Sound Trades) and the support of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, we will go on a journey to see a series of electronic music artists and groups with origins in Arab countries (especially Egypt) to compare, analyze, listen to and also reinterpret and remix amongst us all, with the goal of learning, enjoying and playing with the devices that will be made available to all those attending: synthesizer keyboards, sampler/sequencers, and midi and DJ controllers.
Participants can also bring their own references for this music (albums, playlists or names of performers), and we will share them all together during the workshop. No prior knowledge is required.
Registration, open to those over the age of 15, is free of charge. You must simply fill out this form. However, only the first 20 people to sign up will be admitted. You will be sent an e-mail message to inform you whether you have been admitted or not. If you have any questions about the workshop contents, please write to: electrosonoros@gmail.com
