España inteligible. Razón histórica de las Españas, by Julián Marías
From March 19, 2014 until March 26, 2014
Presentation of the book’s Arabic-language edition March 20, 2014 - MADRID
Casa Árabe is paying homage to Spanish philosopher Julián Marías upon the centennial anniversary of his birth with the presentation of the Arabic-language edition of one of his most famous works, España inteligible. Razón histórica de las Españas (Understanding Spain, Editorial Alianza, 1985), the recent translation of which was completed at the initiative of the Association of Egyptian Hispanists.
Author of an enormous number of essays, Julián Marías is an essential name in twentieth-century culture. A thorough observer of Spain’s cultural tradition, a critical thinker and painstaking researcher, the subject matter which he discusses continues to be a required point of reference when studying the identity of Spain as a nation, as well as its journey through democracy.
The recent interest in translating this work into Arabic, as has been the case in Egypt, demonstrates the current validity of his thought and the value of his contributions as they may be applied to the current transition processes in Arab countries.
Speaking at the event are: Ayman Abdulsamie Zaineldin, the Ambassador of Egypt in Spain; Ali Menufi, a tenured professor of Spanish Language and Literature and the author of the Arabic-language translation; Helio Carpintero, a member of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, and Eduardo López Busquets, the General Director of Casa Árabe. This event is taking place on Thursday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Casa Árabe auditorium in Madrid (at Calle Alcalá, 62). The speeches will be given in Spanish and Arabic with simultaneous translation into Spanish. Free entry until the event’s capacity is reached.
