Exhibition "Sand Gardens"
From October 04, 2012 until February 17, 2013
Casa Árabe organizes the exhibition "Sand Gardens. Commercial Photography in the Middle East 1859-1905", which gathers more than 80 black and white photographs from the latter 19th century and beginnings of the 20th century.
A unique collection which gathers the first images on Middle East countries made by European travellers.
The exhibition, divided in six geographic sections (Egypt, Arabia, Holy Land, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey and Caucasus), shows the topics and specialities of the Middle East photographers from the second half of the 19th century: study portraits, royal assignments, landscapes, monuments and relevant buildings inventory, etc.
This exhibition is a Canopia and Turner project whose curator is the photograph historian and museum curator Clark Worswick. It will be on display at Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Madrid from October 16 to January 13, Monday to Saturday, from 11.00 to 15.00 and from 16.00 to 19.30; Sundays and holidays from 11.00 to 15.00.
