The film will be followed by a colloquium with Lebanese-Palestinian screenwriter Nadine Naous.
Bye Bye Tiberias, by Lina Soualem (Palestine, France, Belgium and Qatar, 82 minutes).
Thirty years ago, Hiam departed from her Palestinian village, leaving behind her great-grandmother Um Ali, her mother Neemat, her father Said, seven sisters and brothers, in order to pursue her dream of becoming an actress in Europe. Her daughter, Lina, a filmmaker, decides to return to the village with her and ends up analyzing both her mother’s exile and her family relationships, including the influences of the women in her family on both her mother and herself.
Through this documentary, Lina takes us on a journey back to the the starting point when memory, resistance and femininity were first handed down across four generations of Palestinian women, by masterfully weaving modern-day images, family records, historical archives and fictional excerpts.
The film screening will be followed by a colloquium with the Lebanese-Palestinian scriptwriter Nadine Naous, which will be moderated by Karim Hauser, coordinator of Casa Árabe’s Cultural Programs. You can watch the colloquium live on our YouTube channel.
