The phenomenon of violent radicalization is a reality that affects contemporary societies in both the Arab-Muslim world and the West. This shared problem has complex roots and therefore needs to be addressed from a multidimensional perspective. The language of film often makes it possible, through fiction or documentaries, to better illustrate the different manifestations of this phenomenon and, above all, to understand the individuals who form part of the processes leading them to violence.

In order to provide a space for reflection and debate on this issue, the CIDEAL Foundation and Casa Árabe are have organized, with the support of the AECID, the film series “Coexistence and the Prevention of Violent Radicalization,” to be held in January 2021 in a hybrid live and online format.

By going on the Filmin app and using the access codes you can obtain by writing to comunicacion@sideal.org, you can watch the following films from January 7 through 14: Paradise Now (Hany Abu-Assad, 2004, 87 min.), Timbuktu (Abderrahmane Sissako, 2014, 92 min) and The Reluctant Fundamentalist (Mira Nair, 2013, 125 min.).

On  January 22, at Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Madrid and by signing up in advance (the form will be published in January on this website), you can see the film Horses of God (Nabil Ayouch, 2012, 113 min.). Last of all, on January 29, you can watch the documentary Of Fathers and Sons (Talal Derki, 2017, 99 min.).
