Food Security in the Maghreb Region

From October 16, 2013 until October 21, 2013

We will be presenting this book published by tenured professor Antonio Marquina on Monday, October 21, at 7:00 p.m. in the Casa Árabe Auditorium in Madrid. Accompanying the author will be Mohammed Haneche, the Ambassador of Algeria in Madrid; Jesús Argumosa, Director of Atenea Group Forums; Francisco González, the former Director of the School of Agricultural Engineering (UPM) and Antonio Marquina, a tenured professor of Security and International Cooperation (UCM) and President of the Spanish-Algerian Forum.

“Food Security in the Maghreb” takes a look at a fundamental topic for the security of people and governments in the years to come. The work focuses on the Maghreb region countries and includes key aspects which will have an impact on their food security: population growth, especially in urban areas; the ageing of the rural population; emigration from the country to the city; the increase in income levels; agricultural policies; the increase in food prices; the impact of financial speculation on agricultural price volatility; the effect of climate change; export and import policies; agricultural production and supplies. The book demonstrates just how complex this topic is and allows readers to become familiar with one of the hottest, most problematic issues of the upcoming years.

Free entry to the presentation until the capacity is full.
