On December 14, Casa Árabe, in collaboration with the Spanish Observatory on Racism and Xenophobia (OBERAXE), is hosting the presentation of this report about the situation of migrants and refugees in Spain. Register now to attend.

The report, which is being presented publicly for the first time, regards the situation in the year 2021 and is titled "Situation of migrants and refugees in Spain: new challenges and lessons learned in the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The event will be taking place on Wednesday, December 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Casa Árabe's Auditorium in Madrid (c/ Alcalá, 62). Registration to attend the presentation can be completed until December 12 at this link.

The session will include an institutional welcome by the Secretary of State for Migration, Isabel Castro Fernández, the President of the Forum for the Social Integration of Immigrants (FISI), Ángeles Solanes Corella, the Director General of Humanitarian Care and Social Inclusion of Immigrants, Miriam Benterrak Ayensa, and representatives from Casa Árabe.

The presentation will address the issues that form the backbone of the four chapters in which the report is structured: the adoption and application of regulations related to the migrant and refugee population, the status of the situation and pending challenges; the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on the situation of immigrants, asylum seekers and refugees, with a special emphasis on the increasingly xenophobic and racist climate; the impact of COVID-19 on the social-labor situation, its impact on immigrants and especially on women; the educational context in the post-covid era and how it is affecting immigrants, including the main challenges to be overcome.

The presentation of the report will be given by the presidents of the four FISI commissions on behalf of the members of each: Enrique Barbero on behalf of the Legal and International Affairs Commission; Ana María Corral for the Employment and Equal Opportunities Commission; Juan Antonio Segura for the Integration, Interculturality, Coexistence and Social Cohesion Policies Commission; and Ahmed Khalifa as president of the Education and Social Awareness Commission.

The panel presentation of the report will be followed by a question and answer session in which the audience will be able to participate. It will be moderated by Alejandra Temprano, head of communication and hate speech monitoring at OBERAXE. The session will be closed by FISI's first vice-president, Vladimir Paspuel Revelo, who will present the most significant conclusions.
