On October 17, the University of Cadiz School of Philosophy and Letters will be hosting this event to pay tribute to the renowned Spanish Arabist, bringing together foreign and domestic experts for a day of presentations on the Arabic language.
For yet another year, Casa Árabe is contributing to the holding of this event devoted to the work of Prof. Federico Corriente, one of Spain’s most prominent Arabists.
The memorial will be taking place at the University of Cadiz School of Philosophy and Letters from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will feature the participation of Juan Pedro Monferrer (University of Cordoba); Ángeles Vicente (University of Zaragoza); Christophe Pereira (INALCO, Paris); Alberto Montaner (University of Zaragoza) and Ahmed Salem Ould Mohamed Baba (Universidad Complutense de Madrid).
These events, which pay homage to the memory of Arabist Federico Corriente (who passed away in 2020), have been held in different cities across Spain since 2022. The first of them took place at Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Madrid in 2022, organized with the cooperation of the Universities of Zaragoza, Cadiz and Cordoba. A year later, Casa Árabe’s Cordoba headquarters hosted the second edition, dedicated to the texts, varieties and registers of Arabic in Al-Andalus and Morocco. In 2024, the University of Zaragoza was the venue for the third edition, whose keynote speech was dedicated to “Federico Corriente and Catalonia,” given by Prof. Dolors Bramón.
