The year 2020 edition of the World Freedom of the Press Ranking by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) shows that the upcoming decade will be decisive in terms of the future of journalism. The pandemic  of Covid-19 is deepening the many crises which threaten the right to free, independent, plural, reliable information. And now added to the crises affecting the future of journalism (geopolitical, technological, democratic, economic and those related with trust in journalism) is a health care crisis. We will be discussing the impact of these crises on Arab countries with Rosa Meneses, Vice-President of the International Council of Reporters Without Borders and a reporter for the daily newspaper “El Mundo,” to mark the occasion of World Freedom of the Press Day, held on the recent date of may 3. The event will be shown on Casa Árabe’s Instagram profile, on Thursday, May 7 at 5:00 p.m.

Rosa Meneses has a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid, where she also earned a graduate degree in International Information and Countries of the South. She is a specialist in International Relations with a degree from Spain’s Diplomatic School. As a reporter for the newspaper El Mundo, she has been traveling throughout the Middle East and North Africa for 20 years, covering conflicts, humanitarian crises and political events. She has been a member of the executive board of RSF Spain since April 2014 and has been its Secretary General since October 2016.
