Guided tours of Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Madrid
From August 25, 2021 until September 26, 2021
MADRID
The tours will be taking place on Saturday, September 25 and Sunday,
September 26 within the framework of the international Open House Madrid
Festival on architecture and cities.
For yet another year, Casa Árabe is cooperating with this festival by organizing two guided tours of its emblematic building.
The Casa Árabe headquarters in Madrid is housed in the Aguirre Schools
building, which dates back to 1881 and was inaugurated in 1886. The
building is one of the most representative works of the architect Emilio
Rodríguez Ayuso and the neo-Mudejar from Madrid.
Conceived as a two-storey free-standing rectangular volume, the building reduces its surface on the main floor to form a U, leaving a courtyard open to the rear façade. Above the nucleus of stairs is the 37-meter tower, with three brick bodies and a glazed metal attic, so unique in the urban image of Madrid.

It has been expanded and reformed on
several occasions by professionals such as Luis Bellido González,
Antonio Flórez Urdapilleta, Bernardo Giner de los Ríos or Guillermo
Costa Pérez-Herrero, and its functions have varied from school to
municipal offices. Since 2008 it houses the Madrid headquarters of the
Casa Árabe.
At this year’s edition, taking place from September 24 to 26, 2021, the most interesting and difficult-to-visit buildings in Madrid can be toured free of charge, with the goal of allowing the people to experience architecture and the city in a unique way, helping them understand the value of each space and experience the uniqueness of certain buildings which are usually closed to the public. Thus, architecture lovers are looking forward to Open House Madrid, the most anxiously awaited festival of the year.
Open House Madrid relies on the support of the Municipal Government of Madrid, which, by backing initiatives like this, seeks to promote the revival of tourism in the capital, constantly striving to ensure the safety of all participants.
The tours of Casa Árabe’s headquarters will be held on Saturday, September 25 and Sunday, September 26 at different times. The groups are kept to a small size.
