As part of the brotherhood between Aula Árabe Universitaria and Aula Mediterrània, Casa Árabe is collaborating with IEMed for the second year in a row to organize a round table discussion at the annual Aula Mediterrània Interdisciplinary Research Seminar.

Within the framework of the tenth Aula Mediterrània 2025 Seminar on interdisciplinary research, organized by the IEMed, with the cooperation of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans (IEC), Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), FIMAM (Forum for Research on the Arab and Muslim World) and EuroMeSCo, and as part of the twinning between Aula Árabe Universitaria and Aula Mediterrània, Casa Árabe is collaborating to help organize the third round table discussion on “Instruments to encourage research and academic training on the Mediterranean” on February 24, and the working session “Towards a Mediterranean research agenda” the following day.

This tenth edition of the Aula Mediterrània Interdisciplinary Research Seminar has been organized within the framework of the thirtieth anniversary of the Barcelona Process, occurring in 2025, with the goal of promoting research and academic cooperation in the Mediterranean. This edition represents a key milestone towards strengthening synergies among institutions, researchers and students, with a view to addressing the region’s challenges from an interdisciplinary perspective. To achieve that, this edition is maintaining and strengthening its collaboration with Casa Árabe’s Aula Árabe Universitaria program, as well as gaining the support of the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) to increase awareness of its efforts towards Euro-Mediterranean cooperation in higher education. Along the same lines, the seminar is including the participation of researchers from the Forum for Research on the Arab and Muslim World (FIMAM), a point of reference for research in Spain, and from the EuroMeSCo network, which brings together important think-tanks from the Euro-Mediterranean area.

On February 24 and 25, at the headquarters of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans, participants will be discussing issues related to university cooperation and research in the Euro-Mediterranean region, as well as thematic studies promoted by research groups and Master’s degree contributors. In addition, Aula Mediterrània is reaffirming its support for young students by holding the fifth edition of the Awards for the Best Master’s Theses, in which they will be presenting their research results and motivations.

The conference will be focusing on different factors related with the Euro-Mediterranean region, including higher education, migration, artificial intelligence, gender perspectives, historical narratives and diplomatic relations. It includes debates on the thirtieth anniversary of the Barcelona Process, migration and refugees in the Mediterranean, intercultural co-existence in cities and the situation in the Middle East.
