Within the framework of the United Arab Emirates’ efforts to promote
interreligious and intercultural dialogue, the UAE Embassy in Madrid is
organizing this conference on June 15, with the cooperation of Casa
Árabe.
Interreligious and intercultural dialogue can be a powerful tool for promoting peace, tolerance, coexistence and stability, as well as preventing and eradicating extremism in our societies.
At the current juncture of polarization in the midst of a global pandemic, it is increasingly necessary to seek a steadfast commitment to the common values that unite humanity and are promoted by its different religions. Building a broad umbrella of tolerance is an urgent task to achieve coexistence in an atmosphere of respect and diversity.
The conference will be officially opened by Pedro Martínez-Avial, the General Director of Casa Árabe, and by Majid Al Suwaidi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in Spain. Speakers will include the following: Mons. Bernardito Cleopas Auza, Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See in Spain; Federico Mayor Zaragoza, President of the Culture of Peace Foundation and former Director General of UNESCO; Mercedes Murillo Muñoz, Deputy Director General of Religious Freedom of the Ministry of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, and Ramón Blecua, Ambassador on a Special Mission for Mediation and Intercultural Dialogue.
To attend in person, you must sign up in advance (limited capacity). The event will also be broadcast live on our YouTube channel.
