On October 13 and 14, Casa Árabe will be hosting a conference at its headquarters in Madrid on international law and how it is questioned, with in the context of the conflict in the Middle East, at an event organized by Universidad Rey Juan Carlos with the cooperation of Casa Árabe.
The conference has been organized under the direction of Francisco Jiménez García, a professor of Public International Law and International Relations at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.
The purpose of this event is to create a space for academic and critical reflection on two major vectors of change that have been marking the contemporary international agenda: the questioning of international law and the conflict’s geopolitical impact on the Middle East. Thus, the conference is based on a two-fold observation: the profound international repercussions of the conflict in Gaza and the accelerated erosion of both multilateralism and the current world order. The conference will bring together specialists in International Law and International Relations to analyze the effects of these events on global governance from different perspectives. The days of events have been organized within the framework of the state research project: Towards a Comprehensive International Convention on the Criminal Use of Information and Communication Technologies: Cyber-terrorism and hate speech in a framework of freedom of expression and responsibility, with the support of the Intercivitas Group and the URJC’s School of Legal and Political Sciences.
The program will include two round table discussions on consecutive days. Monday, October 13 will be devoted to “International Law in dealing with technological progress and the decline of multilateralism: Law in crisis or law facing a new international order?,” with experts in public international law from the Universities of Malaga, Alicante and Rey Juan Carlos. The second morning of October 14 will be devoted to “The World After Gaza: Reflections on global geopolitics from the Middle East,” with experts in International Law, International Relations and conflicts from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, IECAH and Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.
