To mark this anniversary, Casa Árabe will be hosting a conference of the
International Organization for Migration (IOM) on December 15 at its
Madrid headquarters, including a round table discussion, an awards
ceremony and a musical performance.
The conference will be officially opened by a representative of Spain’s Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration (to be confirmed), as well as María Jesús Herrera, head of mission at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Spain, and Cristina Juarranz, Casa Árabe's assistant director and programming coordinator.
This will be followed by a round table discussion titled "What's in a migrant's suitcase? Contributions and synergies,” moderated by Alejando Rojas, of IOM Spain. It will feature talks by Larbi El Harti, a playwright and director of the María Pagés Choreographic Center, Honorina Mangomo, president and founder of the Mwana Glenn Association, Olga Elizabeth Sánchez Ortiz, coordinator of the Gender area at the Rumiñahui Association, and Agustina García Sacco, a journalist and student of the Master's Degree in Public Services and Social Policies.
Once the round table has ended, it will be time for the awards ceremony (at 8:00 pm). Both the Matriz Awards, which distinguish the two best social projects presented by associations of migrants participating in the training on project formulation and management of the Matriz Initiative, and the Migrando Miradas Awards, which acknowledge the best works in communication on migration presented by university students participating in the Migrando Miradas project, aimed at training students on an ethical approach to migration in the media, will be awarded.
The event will end with a musical performance by cellist Sergio Menem.
Irene Lozano, Casa Árabe's General Director, will be in charge of the closing ceremony.
