ALCALÁ LA REAL (JAÉN)
The call for papers for this International Congress to pay homage to the memory of Professor Miguel Cruz Hernández will remain open until June 25.
The congress, which will take place on September 24 and 25 in Alcalá la Real (Jaén), came about to pay tribute to Miguel Cruz Hernández (1920-2020), the great specialist in Islamic thought, and in particular thought in Al-Andalus, as well as authoring a major work on the history of Al-Andalus. Born in Malaga, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Letters at the University of Granada, and in 1946 he defended his doctoral thesis in the old Salón de Grados event hall on Calle San Bernardo, which was known at the University of Madrid at the time. His academic life was spent in Salamanca and, over the last decades of his career, at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). His work and undertakings are international in scope and renown.
Following his death, a group of his colleagues agreed to form a Commission last spring, with the goal of organizing a Congress in his honor, as well as a putting out a publication.
