On Tuesday, October 14, the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services is organizing this conference on internationalization to identify and analyze the country’s development plans and projects in renewable energy, infrastructure, water, transportation and urban development. The registration period has already begun.
Thanks to improved security in the country, strong public and private consumption and growth in non-hydrocarbon sectors, the Libyan economy showed significant signs of recovery in 2024, while GDP growth of 12.3% is expected in 2025 (World Bank, 06/30/25).
With 7.5 million inhabitants, the largest oil reserves in Africa, significant gas reserves and a privileged location on the Mediterranean Sea, Libya’s position is increasing in strength as a strategic market in the Middle East and North Africa, as well as becoming a key energy partner for Europe.
Among the projects under way, Libya is currently developing a $10billion solar program to generate 4 GW of clean energy by 2035, including a 500 MW plant in Saddada with an investment of $1billion dollars. In addition, it has launched a $12.7 billion reconstruction fund over three years for infrastructure, water, transportation and urban development, all industries in which Spanish companies are majorly competitive.
Spain, Libya’s second largest trading partner after Italy, has extensive opportunities in the fields of construction, renewable energy, agriculture, livestock farming and hydrocarbons. The reactivation of international interest in the country makes this an ideal time for Spanish companies to strengthen their presence and gain a competitive advantage.
In this regard, the business conference organized by the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services and Aresbank, with the cooperation of Casa Árabe, seeks to analyze the opportunities arising in these sectors and the potential for growth in the economic relations between the two countries.
The event will officially be opened by the President of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, Ángel Asensio, and the General Director of Casa Árabe, Miguel Moro, followed by a speech from the Ambassador of Spain in Libya, Javier Soria Quintana.
