Casa Árabe, with the cooperation of the British Council, is screening a
selection of short-subject films by young filmmakers from Libya, as part
of the exhibition Tracking a Vanishing Landscape.
The event will be attended by Andy Mackay, director of the British Council, and Nuria Medina, Casa Árabe’s Culture Coordinator.
From 2012 to 2015, within the context of post-revolutionary Libya, a group of young Libyan filmmakers created this series of short-subject films thanks to a project carried out in the country by the British Council and the Scottish Documentary Institute.
The works form a kaleidoscope of post-revolutionary Libya and delve into the story of characters who are attempting to find normalcy in a world of chaos: from a grandmother who focuses on sewing flags for the revolution to a the curator of the Saray al Hamra Museum, determined to protect the historical heritage, and including Eritrean migrants who find themselves detained after an exhausting journey across the desert, or a young woman who wants to become a movie director in a world where men want to dictate all the rules.
