Medieval urban planning and preservation of architectural heritage in Fez

On Thursday, April 3 in Cordoba, we will be hosting the second session in our lecture series Aula Árabe Universitaria, in which Said Ennahid, a professor at Al-Akhawayn University, will be talking about medieval urbanism and the preservation of architectural heritage in this Moroccan city.
At this conference, Professor Said Ennahid, an archeologist and architectural historian at the University of Al-Akhawayn (Morocco), will be providing a brief overview of the urban and architectural history of the city of Fez and several aspects related with the preservation of its architectural heritage. Throughout the course, he will be carrying out a detailed examination and critical evaluation of the main archeological and historical conservation projects implemented in Fez since the city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981.
Organized with the cooperation of the Bachelor’s degree program in Art History, the Bachelor’s degree program in History, the program to become a Cultural Manager and the Master’s degree in Heritage Management at the University of Cordoba (UCO), taking part in the event in representation of these programs will be Rafael Blanco, an Art History professor at the UCO. The event will be moderated by Javier Rosón, who is representing Casa Árabe in Cordoba.
Said Ennahid
Said Ennahid is an archeologist and professor of Islamic Art and Architecture at Al-Akhawayn University’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences in Ifrane, Morocco. With a PhD from Arizona State University, his research and teaching interests include archeology, Islamic art, architecture and urbanism, medieval historiography and historical geography, French colonial architecture and urbanism, and the cultural heritage of contemporary Islamic societies in North Africa. Ennahid is also an expert member of the International Committee on Historic Towns and Villages (CIVVIH) and an associate member of the International Scientific Committee for twentieth Century Heritage (ISC20C) and the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).
