As part of the Twelfth White Night of Flamenco in Cordoba, we have organized this late-night concert between Saturday, June 15 and Sunday, June 16. Mujeres Mediterráneas (Mediterranean Women) is a group whose members are Pilar Alonso, Habiba Chaouf, Ana Sola and Mixtlan Salomón.

Mujeres Mediterráneas is a music group founded upon the co-existence of different types of music and cultures, including flamenco and Arab music. It was created in 2015 as a result of a vital meeting on stage. Linked together in the universe of Mujeres Mediterráneas are Middle Eastern and Andalusian rhythms amid the harmonies and melodies of flamenco coplas, Arab songs and Sephardic sounds.

“Quejío y mawal, emocionan igual” (meaning “the flamenco lament, or quejío, and the mawal create the same emotion”) is a repertoire which creates a journey through the many styles of flamenco, in a brotherhood with Arab music styles. The echoes of popular voices from both shores of the sea go hand-in-hand in an exchange of couplets and refrains which they weave together with both subtlety and elegance, strength and freshness.
