Meeting with Sudanese activist Alaa Salah

During this week, in which we will be reflecting upon the reality in
Sudan today, Casa Árabe and the Directorate General for the United
Nations and Human Rights, forming part of Spain’s Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation, have organized this event
to be held in Madrid on Wednesday, December 11.
Salah will be introduced by Pedro Martínez-Avial, the General Director of Casa Árabe.
Alaa Salah took part in the anti-government protests which led to the overthrow of Sudan’s president Omar al Bashir in April of 2019, becoming an icon in the Sudanese people’s fight for social and political rights. The image of her addressing the crowds drew international attention and traveled around the world, causing her to become known as the “woman in white” or “lady of freedom” in Sudan.
