Casa Árabe, the International Mediterranean Studies Workshop (TEIM) and the Political and Electoral Observatory of the Arab and Muslim World (OPEMAM) have organized this seminar.

The holding of Morocco's legislative elections in October 2016 provided an opportunity to perform real-life observation of how the country's political system works, its social debates, the pending matters not discussed, the battle between political parties and the continued existence of old ways of doing politics.

Three months after these elections, the difficulty which the candidate at the top of the ballot for the party that received the most votes has encountered in forming a government is a factor which causes any analysis of the election to be of even greater interest, as well as giving us the chance to attempt to understand the sociopolitical dynamics that will characterize this North African country in 2017.

A group of researchers who specialize in Morocco is meeting at Casa Árabe to reflect upon and debate this topic in current affairs. The activity has been organized as part of the project "New political scenarios, social changes and regional transformations in the Arab and Islamic world after the 'Arab Spring' and its implications for Spain" (CSO2014-52998, Ministry of the Economy and Competitiveness, Government of Spain).
