Casa Árabe and the Real Instituto Elcano analyze this topic in a debate with specialists
As a result of the Jihadist mobilization in Syria and Iraq in recent months, where, according to the latest calculations, at least 2,000 Western volunteers have traveled up to the present, it has become necessary to reflect upon the implications and challenges which this phenomenon is causing for Spain, as well as our country’s responses to this threat. These responses range from initiatives involving the police and courts to those related with defense and the State’s activities abroad. All of these factors will be analyzed during the debate.
The round table discussion will be presented by Eduardo López-Busquets, the General Director of Casa Árabe, and moderated by Fernando Reinares, the head researcher on International Terrorism at the Real Instituto Elcano. The event will also include interventions by Miguel Ángel Ballesteros, the General Director of the Spanish Institute of Strategic Studies (IEEE); Francisco de Miguel, Sub-director General of International Terrorism Affairs of Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MAEC); Javier Zaragoza, head public prosecutor of Spain’s Audiencia Nacional court, and Juan Carlos Marín, head of the International Terrorism area at the National Center for Anti-terrorist Coordination (CNCA).
