On Tuesday, June 29, we have organized this online conference for companies about Tunisia’s potential in various sectors of interest, including namely the agri-food industry and renewable energies.

Despite difficult years of political and economic transition, compounded by the impact of covid and the world economic crisis, Tunisia is a country with good prospects for political stability and budding economic growth, which it is important to build upon.

At present, Spain is the country’s fourth largest supplier in Europe (the EU as a whole is the origin of 52% of Tunisian imports) after Italy, France and Germany, and the seventh in the world, with a share of 4.11% (according to the MAUC country file published on April 11, 2021), as well as Tunisia’s fourth largest client, with a 4.0% share of Tunisian exports, after France, Italy and Germany. While trade relations still allow for great room in terms of growth, investments could also show more positive results in both directions. With the latest available data for 2018, Spain was the tenth most important investor country in terms of trade flows, representing just 1.1% of total foreign direct investment in the country (excluding energy), although in terms of stock it ranks fourth.

In this sense, the economic relations between both countries offer major growth potential in different sectors, including the agri-food industry, renewables, automotive and pharmaceuticals, and others, in which Tunisia hope to position itself and has launched significant development plans and globally competitive Spanish companies possess a great deal of experience.

This potential for mutual interest will be analyzed at the online round table talk organized by Casa Árabe in conjunction with the Tunisian Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA), Icex and the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Madrid.

The conference will explore the general potential for development in different sectors and then, through two specific sessions, focus on the possibilities of the agri-food industry, organic and ecological products, as well as renewable energies in Tunisia, with the help of the country’s sector-based development agencies. After these sessions, some success stories will be presented with the participation of Spanish companies that have made investments and carried out projects in Tunisia.

The event will be brought to a close by the Spanish Ambassador to Tunisia, Guillermo Ardizone García, and officially opened by the Director General of Public Economy of Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Luis Óscar Moreno García-Cano, along with the Director General of FIPA, Abdelbasset Ghanmi, and the Tunisian Ambassador to Spain, Fatma Omrani Chargui.
