The goal of the workshop is to provide assistance, spur thought and raise awareness about the loneliness and grief of unaccompanied migrant children and young people formerly under state guardianship now living in Madrid. You may now register.

This new “Emotion Suitcases” workshop, for professionals and students alike, is all about discovering the potential offered by art and art therapy as feasible ways to explore and deal with emotions in undesirable situations of loneliness and in the prevention of, help with and processing of (complex) grief among unaccompanied migrant children and young people, and young people formerly under state guardianship.

The workshops “Emotion Suitcases: Small traveling museums of memories, emotions and dreams” have been held at Casa Árabe’s headquarters since May, using different art methodologies adapted to each group. Workshop participants can also sign up for a discussion group on this topic, to be held in November.

The initiative forms part of the Madrid Region Health Department’s “Journeys of Solitude, Mourning and Hope” project and has been organized with the cooperation of Casa Arabe, the Association of Arab Artists in Spain (3AE) and the Art for Life Association (ACAV).

“Travesías” is a social, creative and artistic project that uses art and art therapy to create spaces, potential and resources for assistance, training, reflection and awareness surrounding the problems of feeling unwanted loneliness and complex grief among unaccompanied migrant girls, boys and youths, as well as formerly assisted immigrant youths in Madrid.
