For yet another year, our institution is taking part in Madrid Otra
Mirada (MOM) with guided tours of its headquarters, one of the finest
examples of neo-Mudejar architecture in Madrid. The tours will be given
on October 16 and 17, at 12:00 and at 1:00
p.m.
The Casa Árabe headquarters in Madrid is housed in the Aguirre Schools building, which dates back to 1881 and was inaugurated in 1886. The building is one of the most representative works of the architect Emilio Rodríguez Ayuso and the neo-Mudejar from Madrid.
Conceived as a two-storey free-standing rectangular volume, the building reduces its surface on the main floor to form a U, leaving a courtyard open to the rear façade. Above the nucleus of stairs is the 37-meter tower, with three brick bodies and a glazed metal attic, so unique in the urban image of Madrid.
MOM is a unique opportunity to learn more about our history, our heritage and how the institutions around us came into being. since it offers the possibility to get a first-hand look at many emblematic buildings usually closed to the public, and the fact that all of the activities are free of charge.
The visits will take place on October 16 and 17 at 12:00 and 1:00 p.m., and will last one hour. Place reservations will be made from October 5 at 10 a.m. on this website.

It has been expanded and reformed on several occasions by professionals such as Luis Bellido González, Antonio Flórez Urdapilleta, Bernardo Giner de los Ríos or Guillermo Costa Pérez-Herrero, and its functions have varied from school to municipal offices. Since 2008 it houses the Madrid headquarters of the Casa Árabe.
Madrid Otra Mirada is celebrating its nineth edition from October 15 to 17, opening the doors of 140 heritage sites of interest to locals and visitors alike. In these spaces, 170 free activities will be held to celebrate this great festival of cultural heritage. Museums, theaters, churches, cemeteries, parks, gardens, libraries, archives, cultural centers, hotels, palaces and other unique buildings will be on display to the public through guided tours, concerts, lectures, workshops, screenings and children’s activities.
