As part of the celebration of World Arabic Language Day, Casa Árabe and
the publishing firm Editorial Comares have organized the presentation of
this book. It will be taking place in Madrid on Wednesday, December
18.
The event will include speeches by Pedro Martínez Montávez, a translator and the author of the book’s prologue, Luis García Montero, director of the Cervantes Institute, Ana del Arco Blanco, director of the publishing firm Editorial Comares, and Pedro Martínez Montávez, General Director of Casa Árabe.
The readings will be performed by Isabel Ordaz, a Spanish actress and poet, and Rafi Wahbe, an actor and director from Syria.
For Irina Bokova, Director General of UNESCO, “World Arabic Language Day provides the opportunity to acknowledge the huge contribution made by the Arabic language to universal culture and to renew our commitment to multilingualism.” This celebration also gives us the chance to celebrate the language of 22 UNESCO Member States, spoken by 422 million people in the Arab world. It is also an ideal date to highlight the beauty of the Arabic language through the work of Nizar Qabbani, one of the most popular and important Arab poets of the twentieth century. In this new selection and translation of poets by Pedro Martínez Montávez, who had a personal relationship with the Syrian poet, special attention flourished towards Al-Andalus and Spain.
