TUNISIA

The call for presentations and panels for the international congress to be held in Tunis from September 20 to 24, 2022 will remain open until November 15, 2022.

Within the current context of Tunisia, the Maghreb and the entire region (Middle East, Africa and Europe) and in response to the urgent challenges to be faced collectively, the purpose of Insaniyyat انسانيّات Tunis 2022 is to create a space for scientific debate and exchanges with society about ongoing research in Humanities and Social Sciences and t reflect on their recent dynamics from a multidisciplinary perspective.

Insaniyyat انسانيّات is an international forum of Humanities and Social Sciences organized in Tunis from September 20 to 24, 2022 by the Universities of Manouba (UMA), Tunis (UT), Tunis al-Manar (UTM) and the Institut de recherche sur le Maghreb contemporain (IRMC Tunis), the GIS (Groupement d’Intérêt Scientifique) Moyen Orient et Mondes Musulmans and the Société d’Etude du Moyen-Orient et des Mondes Musulmans (SEMOMM), with the cooperation of other academic and cultural institutions and organizations, including Casa Árabe, Centre Jacques Berque (Rabat), Centre de recherche en anthropologie sociale et culturelle (Crasc, Oran), Centre d’Etudes et de Recherches Economiques et sociales (CERES, Tunis), Columbia Tunis, Conseil Arabe des Sciences Sociales (Beirut), Harvard Tunis, Institut français du Proche-Orient (IFPO, Beirut), Institut National du Patrimoine (INP, Tunis), Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD, Tunis), Unimed (Rome) and Zentrum Moderner Orient (Berlin).

For this first edition, the Insaniyyat Forum 2022 will last five days and host a scientific congress (papers, panels, round tables), as well as themed meetings that bring together representatives from the Humanities and Social Sciences, writers, intellectuals and artists around the current practices and problems of the Digital Humanities, the multilingual circulation of knowledge and the dialogue between Science and Society. It will also include an exhibition of new academic publications in the field of the Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as a wide range of artistic and cultural events.

Interested parties (researchers, PhD students and post-docs) can propose contributions around the main theme of the congress: Crisis. With a major health crisis behind us, the Forum wishes to highlight research on the very notion of crisis and the mutations to which it has led. This topic invites us to look at crises within a broader chronological and thematic framework, amid all the political, social, economic, legal and cultural changes that have taken place. It will also serve as an opportunity to reflect collectively on the relationship between the recent health crisis and changes in the human and social sciences, in relation with current geopolitical developments and the consequences of the digital transition in knowledge and communication.

In addition to this main topic, as part of the round tables and panels, the Forum will be showcasing all new research on the region (the Maghreb, Middle East, Africa and Euro-Mediterranean area) in a wide range of disciplines (see information in the call for submissions).
